By Judy Graner One topic that you gave priority was originally presented by Brazil. “Provide quality theological education anchored by Pentecostal distinctives/dynamics in a context where in practice it is not highly valued”. What an important topic! In the binder given to you at the 2004 summit, you will find notes indicating that our speakers also felt the topic of Pentecostalism was a priority (such as, Dr. Wilson who addresses Pentecostal education, Jerry Brown´s reports on maintaining the focus, and the sermon extracts from Dr. Richard Dobbins as he presents his concerns regarding the intellectualization of the Pentecostal experience, etc.) The dialogue topic assigned to Team #6 was “The lack of affordable, accessible Pentecostal and other textbooks and library books at different educational levels.” They did an excellent job addressing the resource problem (Link to group report). For this FLAME forum, I am daring to expand the issue for your consideration into various aspects: BOOKS 1) Help me compile an annotated bibliography of all the Spanish and Portuguese books that you have found. The best information would be if you could please give me the full title, name of author, publisher and date of publication plus a one paragraph content summary. 2) Pentecostal topics that need to be addressed but that you have NOT found books on that issue. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT THE LOCAL CHURCH AND/OR SCHOOL What are the books, programs, courses that deal with Pentecostalism and are geared to the local church level? Is there a course that would serve to teach Pentecostalism at the adult or youth Sunday School level? Does PIEDAD have materials for the Christian School to teach our Pentecostal history, heritage, and foundational values, etc.? What resources are available through RDM? Any ideas of who or where such resources could be developed if they are not available now? If, at the next triennial SEC meeting, the commission should authorize adding the above information to the Plan Básico, it would be greatly enriching. BIBLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM A non.pentecostal seminary that was reviewing our Bible School curriculum in Colombia, pointed out that we had no courses on Pentecostalism (whereas they required their students to take at least four!) I immediately pointed out “Pneumatologia” and “Libro de los Hechos”. However, upon reading their course descriptions I realized that we do have some big gaps. As I recall, they had a course that dealt with Pentecostalism throughout Church History, another on 20th century denominations and movements of Classical Pentecostalism versus Charismatic Pentecostalism. There was also a course in Ethnic Pentecostalisms (indigenous Pentecostal churches in Africa and Latin America); as well as including the study of “Pentecostal” sects and cults in the comparative religions course. I´m enclosing the unedited syllabus that was developed for a course that we now teach in Barranquilla, Colombia as an elective. Also, I would appreciate any comment, corrections or additions that you would have. (Reduced the font and took out empty space to conserve space) Wow! What are your ideas? Should we develop course syllabi that could be offered on the internet to the Bible Schools that want to include these among the electives, or give them as additional seminars? Should such syllabi be offered at a future CRA summit? As an afterthought -- have any of you been able to push www.conozca.org? Any feedback? We are looking for solid, doctrinally-sound articles written by Latin Americans that can be put on the web.
